Participation Requirements
- You must be a retail customer of Minnesota Power (receive your electric bill from Minnesota Power).
- You must own the unit(s) and collection must be at the location listed on the utility billing account.

You can recycle a maximum of two large, qualifying appliances (refrigerators and/or freezers) per year, per dwelling.
- Complimentary pickup of window air conditioners, dehumidifiers and mini fridges. Must be coupled with a refrigerator or freezer pickup. No monetary reward for window air conditioner, dehumidifier, or mini fridge recycling.

Unit requirements:
- Refrigerators must be at least 10 cubic feet to a maximum of 27 cubic feet. Larger models will be treated on a case-by-case basis.
- Freezers must be a residential-sized unit.

All equipment (refrigerators, freezers and complimentary products that include window air conditioners, dehumidifiers, and mini fridges) must be in working condition.
- A unit is considered a mini fridge if <10 cu ft.

Before the pickup
- Make sure the unit is in working condition, emptied, and accessible.
- Disconnect all water lines and hoses.
- Ensure pets are crated or temporarily relocated during the duration of the pickup.
- You will be called the day before the pickup to verify the date, time, and location and will receive an email on the day of the pickup with the opportunity to live track your driver for a more specific window of time.

During the pickup
- An adult (at least 18 years old) must be present for the scheduled appliance pickup.
- A licensed and insured Minnesota Power contractor will come to your home to collect the appliance(s). The contractor will be responsible for inspecting your appliance(s) to ensure it meets the above requirements. The contractor will not pick up appliances that do not meet requirements. Additionally, we reserve the right to decline the pickup of any appliance whose removal will put the pickup team in an unsafe environment.
- Once removed, the appliance will be disabled (cord will be cut) to guarantee it will not be used again. The contractor is responsible for any damage incurred in taking the appliance out of your home.

After the pickup

The unit will be taken to a certified recycling facility to be properly processed and recycled according to the EPA’s Responsible Appliance Disposal (RAD) program guidelines. This includes recovery of ozone depleting chemicals from old refrigerators and freezers and ensures the following:
- Refrigerant is recovered and reclaimed or destroyed.
- Polyurethane insulating foam is recovered and destroyed, or the blowing agent is recovered and reclaimed.
- Metals, plastics, and glass are recycled.
- PCBs, mercury, and used oil are recovered and properly disposed of.

The unit will be taken to a certified recycling facility to be properly processed and recycled according to the EPA’s Responsible Appliance Disposal (RAD) program guidelines. This includes recovery of ozone depleting chemicals from old refrigerators and freezers and ensures the following:
- Receive your rebate check in the mail 6-8 weeks after pickup. This offer can be changed at any time subject to dollars available and modifications to program requirements.
