About Our Region

Minnesota Power’s Economic Development Program serves businesses, communities and individuals in its 26,000-square-mile service territory in northeastern Minnesota and northern Wisconsin. We work with businesses seeking to expand or relocate here.

Our service territory includes abundant forest resources, some of the richest iron ore and strategic mineral deposits on earth, and a growing aviation sector. Natural resources continue to drive the local economy and the port of Duluth links us with maritime trade via Lake Superior and the St. Lawrence Seaway. The region also is a popular tourist destination, has robust information technology infrastructure, and a highly skilled and educated talent base.

Our Economic Development Program stands ready to help businesses and entrepreneurs navigate the many resources available that make this a great place to locate and grow.

Minnesota Power’s parent company, ALLETE, has entered an agreement to be acquired by a partnership led by Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Global Infrastructure Partners and start the process to become a private company.

This transaction will not change our operations, strategy or shared purpose and values, and it is business as usual for all of us at Minnesota Power. Learn more at
