Grants from the Minnesota Power Foundation support organizations that focus on improving the health and vitality of communities in our service areas. Through the Foundation board of directors and regional advisory committees, our employees help review grant proposals, assign priorities and decide how the dollars we have available will be invested in the region.

Apply for Grants

Foundation grants are limited to organizations defined as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code or to accredited schools. Grant applications for more than $5,000 are reviewed by the Foundation's board of directors, which meets quarterly.

Organizations and groups interested in applying for grants must complete an online application.

Here are a few things to keep in mind as you prepare your application.

  1. Make sure your project/organization is in our service area. Grants and sponsorships are awarded to organizations that benefit residents, customers and communities in areas served by Minnesota Power. Separate from the Foundation, Minnesota Power also offers grants in areas where we have operations but may not provide service.
  2. Provide enough detailed information in your request so reviewers have a clear understanding of what you intend to do.
  3. Allow 90 days for the Foundation to review your request.

Applicants receiving a grant from the Foundation must return a signed grant agreement form before receiving payment. All grantees are required to provide a final report describing results at the end of the program or project.
