Minnesota’s Ted Foss Move Over Law requires drivers traveling on a road with two or more lanes to move one full lane away from stopped emergency vehicles with flashing lights activated — ambulance, fire, law enforcement, maintenance vehicles, construction and utility vehicles, and tow trucks. Drivers who cannot safely move over one lane must reduce their speed.

The law was named in honor of State Patrol Trooper Ted Foss, who was killed while on the shoulder of I-90 in Winona in 2000. Learn more at
